TRAINING MODULE:
The purpose of this training module is to provide emergency department health care providers training that will ensure that victims/survivors of sexual assault are provided appropriate and sensitive care in emergency departments and to provide an overview of the established procedures for collaborating with Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centre staff about the care, transporting, and/or transferring of sexual assault victims/survivors who present to the ED.
The module
The training module will take approximately 30 minutes to complete and will consist of a pre-test, post-test, and knowledge checkpoints throughout the module.
By the end of the module, you will be able to:
1. Define sexual assault and identify the health impacts
2. Recognize that there are individuals who may be at increased risk of sexual assault and may have unique needs
3. Identify indicators of a recent sexual assault and common barriers and benefits to disclosing sexual assault
4. Know how to facilitate a disclosure of sexual assault and respond in a supportive manner
5. Further understand your role and the role of SA/DVTCs in treating victims/survivors of sexual assault
